History of NJL
Like any great movement or story, all it takes is something small to create the embers of something more, and that's basically how the NJL came to be. Cherry listening and watching podcasts or videos on geek and nerdy topics, started to realize something. That while the content was fun or interesting for the most part, something always seemed to be missing...or rather someone. A voice of color, someone whose melanin is poppin', a..well..a black person lol. So she went looking around for content that was able to nourish her geekdom and her "Black girl magic" at the same time. Unfortunately (all though in hindsight Jay would say it was actually fortunate lol), when she didn't see anything she was really feeling she did what Black Twitter has said time and time again is the awesomeness of black women...She decided to do it her own damn self. Correction, not exactly by herself, but with a few like minded individuals who were geeks, nerds, and down to do it for the C U L T U R E....
Cherry- Originally from Virginia. She enjoys reading various sub-genres of fiction, binge watching exceptional television, and critiquing mediocre films. Her all time favorite franchise is Harry Potter, and at one point, she was a beater on a quidditch team in Florida (no really). She aspires to one day host her own talk show and become famous enough to run up on Michael B. Jordan.
Jay- Born and raised in the county of Dade, a.k.a. Miami, but now lives somewhere in the Eastern hemisphere. As the residential Hotep Nomad he loves geeking out over tech and gadgets, gaming (video, board, paper and pen..it don't matter), and any medium dealing with sci-fi and fantasy. While traveling through the seven seas looking for One Piece, he brings to the league a vast knowledge of most things comicbooks, random acts of Hotep chaos, and the occasional petty quarrel with Cherry.
J2- From Jackson, MS, and is mostly proud of that. He enjoys playing video games he’ll probably never finish, reading comics, and watching various genres of movies and television shows. He also loves crushing beloved films that only get by on nostalgia. Trash will not be tolerated, no matter how old it is. He hopes to one day reach his final form aka writing and publishing his comic that he’s been working on since the 6th grade!
